Muscat/JabalAkhdar/ Sur
Arrive in Muscat. On arrival check in at the hotel and rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight in Muscat.
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to visit the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque one of the largest mosques in the Middle East. Drive past the Royal Opera House. Visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum, exhibiting the wealth of Oman’s history and thus imparting knowledge about the Country’s rich culture and traditions to the visitor. Later you drive along the picturesque corniche to the once walled district Muscat.
You will have photo stops at the residence of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Al Alam Palace, which is flanked by the 16th century Portuguese forts Mirani and Jalali. You will be strolling through MuttrahSouq, where you will be bargaining for handicrafts and silver items.
Note: To enter Grand Mosque dress code for ladies should be fully covered with scarf and wear full sleeves shirt and Men are not allowed to wear shorts. Grand Mosque is open Saturday – Thursday from 0800 HRS- 1100 HRS.
Overnight in Muscat.
After breakfast at the hotel, morning drive to JabalAkhdar. On your way to Jebel Akhdar visit the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz and enjoy a walk through the lush green date plantations. Enjoy the cool climate up in the mountains and see Al Jebel Al Akhdar which is famous for fruit orchards typically laid out in terraces along the mountain slopes and irrigated by Falaj, traditional water systems. A wide variety of fruits including peaches, pomegranates, apricots, figs, grapes, apples, plums and pears are cultivated here from July to September. And almonds and walnuts are also included in the crop. The villages of Saiq, WadiBani Habib and Al Ain dot the landscape and overlook a spectacular landscape of peaks, gorges and wadis. The roses of Jebel Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance from March to April when they are in full bloom and rose water is distilled in the homes of the villagers. Overnight in JabalAkhdar.
Today after breakfast at the hotel, drive to Sur. On arrival check in at the hotel. Sur, once this coastal town was famous for dhow building. Dhow is the famous Arabian sea-going ships. Later you will visit the dhow building shipyard. Leisure in the afternoon.
Later in the evening, you will visit the turtle sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz 60 kms away from Sur, where at night the Green Turtles, after a journey of thousands of kilometers will come ashore to lay their eggs.
Back to the hotel. Dinner.
Overnight in Sur
After breakfast in the morning, drive back to the Muscat along the scenic coastal route. The road winds along the rugged coast, through beautiful valleys, and past white sandy beaches with breathtaking views. Further, you drive to WadiShab, reroute you will see the lush villages surrounded with dates, lemon & mango plantations. It is one of the most beautiful wadis, and their pool with clear deep blue water gives you an opportunity to take a refreshing dip. On the coastal road you will stop at the limestone Sinkhole in Bimah, and then continue to Fins Beach. Drop back to Muscat by late evening.
Overnight in Muscat.
After breakfast check out, and leave for airport to fly back home with happy memories.
