PT30: Tsomoriri Lake Ladakh

Duration: 7 Nights / 8 days

Destination Covered: Delhi, Leh Chumathang, Tsomoriri Tsokar Lake, Hemis Tsokar, Leh

DAY 1: DELHI

Arrive in Delhi. Check-in at hotel. Afternoon proceed for city tour of Old & New Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.

DAY 2: DELHI / LEH

Time free till transfer to airport to board flight for Leh, the capital of Ladakh; situated on the banks of river Indus. Check-in at hotel. Later in the day, visit Shey - an old summer palace with 12 ft. statue of Buddha; Thiksey - the superbly located monastery on a hilltop overlooking village and Indus river. Evening return to hotel. Overnight in Leh.

DAY 3: LEH / CHUMATHANG (140 KM.)

Morning drive from Leh to Chumathang; the natural hot water springs.Camp at Chumathang for overnight.

Destination Covered: Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali, Jispa, Sarchu, Pang, Leh, Delhi

DAY 4: CHUMATHANG / TSOMORIRI

Morning drive from Chumathang to Tsomoriri en-route crossing over Maya Bridge, drive through Puga Valley, covering about 80 Km. Puga valley is located approx. 25 Km. from Tsomoriri and is known for its Sulphur and Borex deposits. Camp at Tsomoriri for overnight.

DAY 5: TSOMORIRI

This day, proceed for a full day excursion around the Tsomoriri Lake and Karzok Monastry which belongs to the Yellow Sect. of Buddhism. Tsomoriri is situated in the middle of the elevated Rupshu Valley surrounded by 6000 mts. altitude peaks which completely shuts the lake in. This valley is inhabited by a small scattered population of 'Changpas' - nomadic shepherd tribe who also engage in TRADE and work in the caravans in Ladakh, Luhaul and Spiti. Later in the day, also visit the 350 years old Karzok Monastery which has about 33 resident monks. Camp at Tsomoriri for overnight.

DAY 6: TSOMORIRI / TSOKAR LAKE / HEMIS (20 KM.)

Morning drive from Tsomoriri to Hemis via Tsokar Lake. This lake is located at an altitude of 4485 mts., about 45 Km. north-west of Tsomoriri Lake. It is also called 'White Lake' because of high deposits of salt around it. Since these lakes are all drainage basins with one outlets their water is mostly blackish. Water of Tsokar lake is so salty that salts procured from its margins was sold all over Ladakh and Kashmir regions by the Rupshu Chang, until a few years ago. Further continue drive to Hemis via Tanglang La. Camp at Hemis for overnight.

DAY 7: HEMIS / TSOKAR / LEH

Morning visit the Hemis Monastery -

DAY 8: LEH / DELHI

Time free till transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi.
